Abstract :
Swietenia mahagony is a medicinal plant that has numerous significant properties. Different parts of this plant such as bark, stem, leaves, trunk, seed, fruit and flower exert medicinal efficiency that can be incorporated to treat diverse ailments and can develop new formulas essential to treat newer afflictions. Based on literature reviewing on Swietenia macrophylla, aqueous extract of its leaves was focused in this study by simple maceration and decoction method. The present study investigates the qualitative and quantitative analysis of major bioactive constituents on Swietenia macrophylla aqueous leaves extract. The qualitative phytochemical analysis of the extracts exhibits the presences of common phyto-compounds including alkaloids, glycosides, saponins, carbohydrates, steroid, flavonids, triterpenoids, tannis, phenol, terpernoids and protein albumin as major active constituents. The quantitative analysis such as total protein content and total carbohydrate determination was carried out for the extracts. Total protein content was higher in decoction extract whereas total carbohydrate determination in maceration extract shows maximum value.
