Abstract :
Business schools and business education prepare students to learn the
basics of thinking critically, communicating effectively and managing
enterprises, so they can serve society in a successful and socially
responsible manner. However, recently business schools and their
graduates seem to be a target for many critics. They are now linked to
major scandals. Ethical leadership is vital to the future of business. Human
values and ethics education is a very important intervention in the larger
task of achieving social and political harmony and building an egalitarian
social order. Addressing the growing challenges of business and the
expected role that future business leaders will be called upon to fulfill is
part of the academic imperative confronting business educators. Social
and political harmony leads one to think that the various problems and
conflicts in the world which inevitably lead to disharmony and
disintegration are not merely the result of our diversities in terms of
genders, races or religions but the result of misunderstanding and negative
thinking. Human values and ethics education can be used as an effective
instrument in bringing knowledge and understanding, thus enhancing
harmony and peace. Business schools must provide a foundation by
introducing and preparing tomorrow’s organizational leaders for the
interconnectivity of business, ethics and society. It is in this backdrop that
a modest attempt has been made in this research to study the impact of
integrating ethics and value education in Business school curriculum for
promoting social and political harmony. A conceptual frame work has been
designed by the researcher after review of literature to find out the impact
of independent variables on ethics and value education as a dependent
variable and its contribution towards social and political harmony and
social awareness. For the purpose of this research, data are collected from
primary and secondary sources. A structured questionnaire in likert scale
(5 point) has been used for collecting data from the primary sources.
Existing literature in the subject has been referred. Sufficient care has
been taken to select the sample of respondents. The sample covers Bschool students, Faculty members and corporate practitioners. Random
sampling was used to select the respondents.
