Abstract :
Background: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a major public health concern, associated with higher maternal and perinatal morbidity. This study is undertaken to evaluate the effect of GDM on perinatal and maternal outcomes among pregnant women reporting to a tertiary care hospital in Tamil Nadu.Materials and Methods: A prospective observational study was conducted from November 2022 to October 2024 on 141 GDM and 141 non-GDM pregnant women. GDM was diagnosed by the 75g OGTT according to IADPSG criteria. Maternal details, pregnancy complication, and perinatal outcomes data were gathered and analyzed using SPSS version 21, and a p-value of less than 0.05 was taken as statistically significant.Results: Of 2,965 deliveries, the incidence of GDM was 4.7%.
