Abstract :

Abstract Ibuprofen, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, has been found in the aquatic environment, but its effects on fish and other aquatic organisms remain largely unknown. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of Ibuprofen on haematological parameters in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). Fish were exposed to immersion two different doses of ibuprofen concentrations (50 and 500 µg/L) for 96 hours. Exposure to acute toxicity resulted in abnormal behavior of some fish. In this study, a significant decrease in red blood cells (RBC) and mean cellular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC) were observed throughout the study period. Hematocrit (Hct), Haemoglobin (Hb), white blood cells (WBC), mean cellular volume (MCV) and mean cellular hemoglobin (MCH) levels were increased. This study demonstrated that different doses of Ibuprofen were associated with different toxic effects on the hematological parameters in rainbow trout.
