Abstract :

Artificial intelligence (AI) has made significant strides in various fields, particularly in ophthalmology, in recent years. This article examines the state-of-the-art in the domain of ophthalmology in order to define the vision that will allow us to advance scientifically in this digital age. The rigorous yet approachable introduction to the algorithms that serve as the foundation for all current AI applications opens the paper. Subsequently, an extensive assessment of the primary AI uses in ophthalmology is given, including subjects like diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, and retinopathy of prematurity. The assessment concludes with a brief discussion of the prospects and difficulties this industry may face in the future.
