Abstract :
Research on child psychology provides compelling evidence that children and
adolescents can increase their happiness by identifying and engaging in their
signature strengths, helping them advance into the good life. Schools are an
excellent location for the well- being initiatives for the fact that in India, 6- 17
years old students typically spend 30- 35 hours per week in school. Thus, the
day- to- day interactions and experiences of students with their peers, teachers
and others in the school setup are integral parts of their well- being. In
addition, parents and teachers are also concerned about character
development. Schools are expected to impart skills which should be able to
help the students to grow as responsible and productive citizens without
jeopardizing happiness.
This article briefly explains the concept of well- being, its importance during
adolescence, the need for schools to impart well- being to students and the
various techniques involved in the same, and finally the practical things that
can be taken up which are meaningful to them. In schools, good social and
emotional well- being protects the youngsters against any behavioral
problems, violence and crime, and the misuse of drugs and alcohol. It can also
help them learn to achieve academically, thus affecting their long term social
and economic well- being.
