Abstract :

This article describes the challenges faced by a medium-sized city that experienced a period of prosperity before sinking into decay. Focusing on the study of the structure, organization, and current functioning of the city center, a mixed-methods research approach was used to identify problems of urban unattractiveness. The results show that the situation of the city center of Koudougou, Burkina Faso, is not the only factor in the city's decadence. Indeed, this situation is reinforced by other factors related to the country's political history or the economic and security crisis affecting the Sahel in general and Burkina Faso in particular. To revive the city, a dynamic urban intervention is recommended, with a revitalization operation that will restore the vitality and attractiveness of the downtown.
