Abstract :

Materials and Methods: This study was conducted on 100 children with b -thalassemia major aged between 1-15 years being regularly transfused at Dept. of Pediatrics, M.G.M. Medical College, for period of 1 year, after taking the consent from the parents and explaining them the purpose and method of study. Result: Mean serum ferritin was found to be 3903.2 1337.0 mg/l in patients with normal GTT while it was 6971 1517.4 mg/l in IGT. The mean SGOT was 110.355.8 u/l in patients with normal GTT and 222.1 30.5 u/l in those with IGT. The mean SGPT was 135.6 62.6 u/l and 288.4 61.1 u/l in normal and impaired GTT respectively.
