Abstract :

Islamic Endowment (Waqf) is a religious system that has become an important institution in Islam, having many religious, economic, social, and cultural dimensions. In fact, Islamic endowment embodies generosity, giving, solidarity, and interdependence in the means of its patronage of different aspects of life like mosques, public utilities, Da'wa and Jihad, schools, libraries, charities, and health institutions. Islamic Endowment (Waqf) is considered as one of the major economic instruments in Islam. It has clearly contributed to the achievement of economic and social development. It formed, through its diversity and flexibility, a fertile field for human creativity in regards with its benefits, services, and charity in the community. This paper aims to demonstrate the role of Islamic Endowment (Waqf) in achieving social development through highlighting its role in the achievement of social justice, social solidarity, solving unemployment and poverty, as well as its role in social welfare and its contribution to the provision of social security and economic stability.
