Abstract :
The Single Party period constitutes an important and final point in the modernization process of
Turkish history. As it will be remembered, the reform efforts carried out in the Ottoman Empire in the
19th century progressed on a stronger ground and in the direction of revolution in the Republic period.
Since the founders of the republic were reformists, they did not hesitate to pave the way for radical
changes in order to reach an ideal order in this process. In general, these radical changes did not develop spontaneously, but worked systematically in an ideological framework, towards the West. One of the most important of these initiatives is the Alphabet Revolution, one of the painful and difficult attempts of the Single Party period. The Revolution Movement was subjected to serious criticism even while it was at the thought stage. These criticisms gained momentum after the implementation of the revolution.
The impact of the revolution, which lasted until ?smet ?nönü's presidency, was the subject of controversy even during the time of Adnan Menderes. This study aims at analyzing the problems and problems that developed in the implementation process of the Alphabet Revolution, but also aims to evaluate the positive and negative approaches towards the revolution in the light of archive documents in a general way. The temporal scope of the study includes the 30-year period after the implementation of the revolution.
