Abstract :
Cognition is a thinking process necessary for the learning of any idea, topic, or concept. Now the world has become a global village. Places like the Middle Easte specially Kuwait, have a diversified environment. Many nationalities came and settled here for different reasons. The international schools in the Middle East have students from various nationalities and cultural backgrounds. The present study aimed to explore students' cognitive and behavioral issues in such a varied environment as in Kuwait. A mixed method was used for the present study. A total of 200 secondary and higher secondary school students enrolled in international schools in Kuwait formed the sample for the study. These students belonged to different nationalities, including Pakistan, Egypt, Lebanon, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Kuwait, Syria, and Jordan. The survey was conducted by using a questionnaire. The questionnaire consists upon closed-ended and open-ended questions. The data from the questionnaire were analyzed by percentages and bar, pie graphs, whereas the data from the open-ended questions were analyzed by generating themes. The data analysis depicted that the mother language, social media influence, the students' teacher relationship, and teaching methods were the causes of students’ cognitive problems. While damaging the school property, making noise and shouting during the teacher’s lecture, use of bad language among the students within the school premises, fighting, and disobeying the school rules were the behavioral issues. Based on findings, it was concluded that schools had to adopt instructional strategies that fulfill the needs of every nationality. It had been suggested that schools engage with one another at the administrative level to address students' cognitive challenges and behavioral problems. Educators from various schools could establish learning communities to exchange their experiences aimed at improving the teaching and learning process. So, students’ cognitive and behavioral problems might be addressed in such a diversified environment.
