Abstract :

The genetic polymorphisms of two functional genes; Insulin-like growth-I (IGF-I) and Insulin-like growth factor binding protein-3 (IGFBP-3) were investigated in three goat breeds (Barki, Damascus and Zaraibi) by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP), for differentiating these breeds. IGF-I-HaeIII/RFLP revealed three genotypes (CC, CG and GG) with frequencies; 0.40, 0.10 and 0.50, respectively in Barki. Moreover, the expected heterozygosity (He) value (0.51) was higher than observed heterozygosity (Ho) value (0.10) in Barki.
