Abstract :
Changes in social theory along with modernity have also influenced the discipline of history.
Throughout the process, the discipline of history has transformed in terms of its purpose, functions,
sources and methods. This study aims at providing knowledge about oral history and interview technique by discussing history-oral history and oral history–in-depth interview relationships. In this
article, the development of oral history, its moving dimensions in the discipline of history and interview-in-depth interview, in-depth interview-oral history relationships are examined. It is concluded
in this study that oral history as a product of transformations in the discipline of history has contributed to the reform of history. Hence oral history has strengthened the discipline of history in
terms of the method, function and purpose. In this paper, also, obvious differences emerge between
interview and in-depth interview. This study claims that beyond being a mere method, oral history
is basically a new understanding. In-depth interview technique is an organon of oral history bring
not an identicalness but complementariness to their relationship. Thus, the study argues the opinion
that a successful in-depth interview is a condition sine qua non for a competent oral history study.
This study is of importance as far as it reveals the status of oral history in the discipline of history,
its influence on the discipline of history, its relationships with in-depth interview
