Abstract :
Spousal neglect is a significant yet underexplored dimension of marital relationships, particularly in collectivistic societies such as Pakistan, where non-physical forms of relational dysfunction often remain overlooked. The present study aimed to examine the psychometric properties of the Spousal Neglect Scale (SNS-A) among married individuals in Pakistan using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). A cross-sectional research design was employed, and data were collected from 405 married participants through convenience sampling. The SNS-A, a 16-items multidimensional instrument measuring emotional, physical, instrumental, and cognitive neglect, was culturally adapted and evaluated for indigenous suitability. Confirmatory factor analysis was conducted using structural equation modeling to evaluate the factor structure of the scale. The results supported the hypothesized four-factor model, demonstrating satisfactory model fit indices (?² = 210.36, df = 104, ?²/df = 2.02, CFI = .953, TLI = .946, GFI = .940, RMSEA = .049, SRMR = .038). The standardized factor loadings ranged from .53 to .66, indicating that all items contributed meaningfully to the latent construct. Internal consistency reliability of the scale was high (Cronbach’s ? = .905), reflecting strong reliability. The findings provide robust evidence for the validity and reliability of the SNS-A as a culturally appropriate instrument for assessing spousal neglect in Pakistan. The study contributes to the limited literature on non-physical forms of marital dysfunction and offers a valuable tool for research, clinical assessment, and intervention planning in the Pakistani context.
