Abstract :
The current study explored perceived masculinity threat associated with psychological well-being among male university students in Pakistan. Perceived masculinity threat was determined through gender role conflict and masculinity contingency that captures a unique psychological aspect of men when their masculine norms are threatened. The research included 800 male participants selected through convenience sampling from the University of Gujrat in Pakistan. Participants completed three standardized self-report questionnaires: The Gender Role Conflict Scale (GRCS), the Masculinity Contingency Scale (MCS), and the Psychological Well-Being Scale (PWB). The results revealed that both indicators of perceived masculinity threat (gender role conflict and masculinity contingency) had significant positive correlation with psychological well-being. However, multiple regression analysis showed that masculinity contingency was the only significant predictor of psychological well-being. The findings further revealed that psychological well-being varied significantly across socioeconomic status groups, while perceived masculinity threat indicators remained consistent across these groups. The study discusses implications for understanding male mental health within the cultural context of Pakistan
