Abstract :
Abstract Muhammad Hussain Azad was a multidisciplinary personality who has given some invaluable writings to Urdu literature as a prose writer, poet, critic, historian and editor. Some of his works include 'Aab e Hayat', 'Sukhan Dan e Faris', 'Qasas e Hind', 'Darbar e Akbari', 'Nigaristan e Faris', 'Nairang e Khayal' and 'Deewan e Zauq'.In 1988 he started editing the work of his teacher Sheikh Muhammad Ibrahim Zauq which was finally published 1891 after unending toil and labor. Other students of Zauq like Hafiz Veeran, Mirza Anwar and Zaheer Dehlavi had arranged his deewan prior to this. While arranging 'Deewan e Zauq', Muhammad Hussain Azad has not gone into details of principles of editing but has definitely given a system of editing which served as a beacon for others to follow. In spite of the numerous objections on 'Deewan e Zauq',the importance of this deewan cannot be downplayed.
