Abstract :
The present study was conducted to assess the job satisfaction and organizational commitment of government school teachers at Hyderabad city. The sample (N=400; male = 200, female = 200) was collected from both male and female schools of Hyderabad city. The age range of the participants was 24 to 59 years (mean age = 41.5). The job satisfaction survey (Spector, 1985) and organizational commitment questionnaire (Allen & Meyer, 1990) were used for data collection with personal data sheet. Informed consent was taken from the participants. It was assumed that organizational commitment would have significant relationship with job satisfaction. Results revealed that there is a significant positive relationship between job satisfaction and organizational commitment, both male and female teachers may have job satisfaction without any discrimination of gender. Secondly, there is a lower likelihood of increase in continuance commitment of school teachers with increase in pay and operating procedures. Thirdly, there is a strong negative association between supervisor support and co-worker support. The results will aid teachers, education specialists and policy makers in better understanding the way forward to increase job satisfaction and organizational commitment which will lead to create conducive environment in classroom.
