Abstract :

The laboratory generated spent bleach liquor from the chlorination stages of Bamboo pulp has been analysed both qualitatively and quantitatively (without washing and with washing) for various chlorophenolics acids using gas chromatography. A number of chlorinated derivatives of phenols, catechols, guaiacols, syringaldehydes have been identified. The concentrations of various compounds identified have also been compared with the reported 96LC50 values. The results indicates that splitting of chlorine dose gives 47% lower formation of chlorinated phenolic compounds in without washing in splitting of chemical dose in C stage and the total chlorophenolic compounds decrease by 54% which is 7% more in comparison to chlorination stage (Dosage being splitted into two equal parts and no in between washing has taken place).
