Abstract :
In this study Household Food Security Survey Module (HFSSM), developed by USDA and used commonly since 1990, was used in Adana metropolitan area to determine the status of food security in the households and to study food consumption habits based on food security level.
In general, the household food security level surveys in the Adana metropolitan area indicated that although hunger was not in a serious condition, food insecurity was critical. Food insecurity ratio was 69% and39.6% for the hoseholds with children and without children, respectively. Higher incidence of hunger and food insecurity for the households with children was a worry ingsituation.
Household’s food consumption frequency show edvariation in different food security levels. While food secure households had enriched nutrition composition, food insecure households had lower frequency of animal origin foodconsumption.
