Abstract :
The present study aimed to investigate the mediating effect of social connectedness with difficulties in emotion regulation and suicidal ideation among college students. The sample of 884 college students (i.e. girls and boys) with age ranging from 16 to 19 years from Jalalpur Jattan, Gujrat, Pakistan. For the current sample social connectedness partially mediate the difficulty in emotion regulation and suicidal ideation. The findings showed negative correlation of difficulties in emotion regulation with social connectedness and positive correlation with suicidal ideation. The group differences revealed that college boys have higher level of social connectedness and girls from government colleges showed higher level of suicidal ideation. Bayesian network model showed that it is possible to accurately predict the suicide risk among college students. However, it is important to study several other contextual factors (socioeconomic status, cultural factors, social support etc.) which may exhibit their effect on suicidal ideation and social connectedness.
