Abstract :
The aim of the study was to assess the effectiveness of therapeutic play during intravenous cannulation
on level of pain among children admitted in a selected hospital and to find the association between study
variables and selected socio-demographic variables. A quantitative evaluative research approach with nonequivalent posttest only control group design was used for the study. Non-probability purposive sampling
technique was used. Data was collected and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Collected
data were planned for analysis by using the frequency distribution, descriptive statistics and inferential
statistics. Out of 40 samples, regarding age majority 45% were 4-5 years in control group and 45% were 3-4
years in experimental group. Regarding gender majority were boys in both control 60% and experimental
group 75%. Regarding behavioural response to IV cannulation majority 95% were having cry in control
group, whereas majority 55% were having fear in experimental group. The level of pain of both control and
experimental group was assessed by using Wong Baker’s Faces Pain rating scale. The statistical significance
was assessed, student ‘t’ test was used to test the effectiveness of nursing intervention between the group
and it was 2.135 and was found significant at p
