Abstract :
Mumbai is one of the major cores for employment opportunities in India. This city provides employment
opportunities up to various levels. Slums have constituted an integral part of city space for several
decades. Slum can be defined as a residential area where dwellings are unfit for human habitation by
reasons of dilapidation, overcrowding, lack of ventilation or sanitation facility and having drinking
water facilities in unhygienic conditions. Many of them stay in slum colonies because of lack of better
alternative.Work is an important part in everyone's lives. Different people get involved in different types
of work. Here the question is how these people choose their area of working, what is the criterion, the
eligibility and so on. Hence, the present study aims to understand the changes in livelihood of people
before and after rehabilitation; and to know the livelihood options in which they are engaged and what
are the current problems they are facing in accessing their employment opportunities.
