Abstract :

‘Buddhism’ is not merely a religion of faith and practice but it is a time tested scientific religion based on spiritual materialism and dialectical reasoning. Buddhist philosophy is far more relevant on crisis torn world today for establishing world peace on a permanent basis. Buddhism is an outstanding religious theological tradition-a tradition of peace and harmony based on the philosophy of philanthropic humanism and universal fraternity which is a hallmark of Lord Buddha’s teachings transcending all national racial social and cultural barriers. Buddhism believes in the potential divinity of the universal human soul. To Lord Buddha Dhamma is nothing but religious righteousness as the true guiding spirit of humanity. Thus Buddhism is the religion of peace as the enlightened path finder and enkindled torch bearer for the universal mankind which is based on the noble spiritualistic mission “Live and Let Live, Help and Not Fight, Assimilation and Synthesis but Not Destruction, Peace Tranquility Harmony and Happiness But Not Dissension”. In its true essence Buddhism is thus a great driving force for global peace in the multipolar world today. Buddha’s policy of peace, non-violence, self sacrifice, compassion, charity and benevolence moulded the lives of thousands of persons in the modern world. Buddhism thus has an intimate association with the concept of world peace. In today’s world where “an exhaustion of spirit, an increase of egocentrcism, individual and collective, which makes the ideal of a world society difficult to achieve.”
