Abstract :

The study aimed at investigating the relationship between resilience and academic achievement of students with hearing impairment. The study also highlighted the difference in the resilience of students with different degrees of hearing loss i.e moderate, sever and profound. A self-developed resilience Scale for students with hearing impairment (RSSHI) comprised of 60- Items related to 10 Major Protective factors of Resilience i.e Self-Esteem, Self-efficacy, Creativity, Internal Locus of Control, Autonomy, Optimism, Emotional Intelligence, Sense of humor, Stress Management Skills and beliefs about disability was used to collect information about the resiliency traits of students with hearing impairment. The data was analyzed by using simple descriptive, inferential statistical techniques i.e Mean (M), Standard deviation (SD), independent samples t-test, Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Pearson r’ coefficient of correlation. The data analysis revealed that the students with different degrees of hearing impairment at secondary school level possesses low level of resilience i.e poor self-esteem, poor self-efficacy, poor emotional intelligence, poor locus of control, poor autonomy, poor sense of optimism and hope, poor sense of humor, poor stress coping skills and poor beliefs about disability. A positive relationship between resilience and academic achievement of students with hearing impairment was found in the study. The findings of the study are useful for School administrators, and policymakers in the field of special education. Special education policies and practices that aim to improve the resilience and well-being of kids with hearing impairment may benefit from this study's findings.
