Abstract :

This study investigates the mental health status and psychological well-being of students with disabilities at Karakoram International University, Gilgit. The quantitative research design had been used, and data were gathered through a purposive sampling technique on 41 students to make sure that persons with various disabilities were included. Stress, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, social support and life satisfaction were measured on the standardized scales. Findings showed that academic and emotional stress was high, as a great number of students claimed that they experience constant anxiety, unable to relax, and have low concentration. The level of psychological well-being was often low, especially self-esteem and future perspective. The results of gender differences indicated that male students had a significantly greater number of stress experiences and female students had more perceived institutional support. Departmental differences showed improved well-being in Social Sciences students. Despite the fact that there are some supportive mechanisms in place, awareness and access are limited. The research suggests that a disability support office, improved counseling, faculty training, and peer mentoring should be implemented to improve inclusive support systems.
