Abstract :
Aim: Our aim of the study was to assess the ocular impact in patients presenting with ocular trauma at ophthalmology department of tertiary care hospital.
Materials and Methods: At our tertiary care center, we enrolled 750 patients in a prospective manner from July 1, 2021, to October 31, 2022. Out of the 750 patients, 600 were chosen according to the specific criteria outlined in the study. An ophthalmologist conducted a comprehensive evaluation of patients with ocular trauma injuries. We gathered demographic information, as well as information on the patients' injury kind and source, clinical presentation, and visual profile. This data was then combined into a pre-established master sheet.
Results: Out of 600 cases, 72% were male and 28% were female. The average age was 33.72 years. 60% of patients came from rural areas, whereas 40% came from urban areas. Road traffic accidents and workplace injuries to the eyes were the most frequent among adults. Sharp (29.2%) and blunt (32.2%) objects injured the majority of patients. 61.2% had close globe injuries, whereas 38.8% had open globe injuries. The conjunctiva (85.3%) and lid with adnexa (72.2%) were the most common ocular traumas observed in our study.
Conclusion: Implementing a proactive and instructional approach is necessary in the workplace to minimize the incidence of ocular injuries.
