Abstract :
Otomycosis is a fungal infection affecting the external auditory canal, commonly caused by Aspergillus and Candida species. While Aspergillus niger is the most frequently identified species, Aspergillus nidulans is a rare causative agent. This case report details a rare instance of otomycosis caused by Aspergillus nidulans, emphasizing the diagnostic process and treatment. A 45-year-old female presented with a three-week history of itching, discharge, and discomfort in the right ear. Laboratory investigations confirmed Aspergillus nidulans as the causative agent through direct microscopy, LPCB mount, and fungal culture. The patient was treated with antifungal therapy, resulting in complete resolution of symptoms.
This case highlights the need to consider Aspergillus nidulans in the diagnosis of otomycosis and underscores the importance of detailed mycological examination and appropriate antifungal therapy
