Abstract :

Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a disabling condition right from the involvement of spine and sacro-iliac (SI) joint. In severe form it involves hips, knees and other bigger joints which further compromises their posture and limits their mobility. Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA) is often a viable option in such cases to manage pain and restore function and mobility. We present a neglected bed ridden case of AS who underwent THA and after proper surgical and medical rehabilitation became mobile and independent.
