Abstract :

Abstract Cost overruns in civil engineering projects pose significant challenges, leading to delays, budgetary constraints, and diminished stakeholder satisfaction. Addressing these overruns necessitates a deep understanding of their root causes, which are often multifaceted and complex. In this context, this paper proposes an innovative approach leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) for root cause analysis in civil engineering projects. By harnessing AI-powered algorithms, this approach aims to identify and prioritize the underlying factors contributing to cost overruns, enabling project managers to implement targeted mitigation strategies effectively. This paper presents a comprehensive framework for AI-powered root cause analysis, encompassing data collection, preprocessing, algorithm selection, and interpretation of results. Through case studies and empirical validation, the efficacy of the proposed approach is demonstrated, offering insights into the key drivers of cost overruns and informing proactive decision-making in civil engineering project management.
