Abstract The realm of Urdu literature is graced with many illustrious sketch writers who have contributed significantly to the genre. Ismat Chughtai, renowned for her feminist perspective and poignant storytelling, stands out as a pivotal figure. Her works often delve into the intricacies of women's lives, portraying their struggles and resilience with a masterful touch. Another pioneer of Urdu pen sketches is Mirza Farhatullah Baig, whose work 'Dr Nazeer Ahmed Ki Kahani Kuch Meri Aur Kuch Un Ki Zabani' is celebrated as Urdu's first pen sketch, offering a humorous yet insightful look into the life of his teacher. The list also includes names like Maulwi Abdul Haq and Ashraf Saboohi, whose sketches capture the essence of their subjects with a blend of humor and depth. Saadat Hasan Manto, though more famous for his short stories, also penned sketches that are revered for their sharp critique and reflection of society.
