Abstract :
This research aimed to describe the character values in traditional games and the government's efforts to intensify traditional games as a basis for cultivating character values. This type of research was descriptive qualitative. The research subjects were the village head, community leaders, and 10 residents of Pasir Panjang Village, East Mempawah District, Mempawah Regency, West Kalimantan. The data collection tool used a checklist and interview guidelines. The data analysis technique used descriptive analysis. The results showed that petak umpet, bola bekel, lompat tali karet, congklak, gobak sodor, ular naga panjang, and engklek are traditional games that are still preserved. The character values that are formed are: fostering tolerance and empathy as well as honing emotional abilities in interaction; patience waiting their turn; obey the rules of play; and hard-working spirit. Efforts made by the government in intensifying traditional games, namely: building partnerships with intellectuals and related institutions (universities); maintain the existence of traditional games in society; and introduce and familiarize traditional games in the school environment.
