Abstract :
Concept of politics and the political actor have a feature that defines them mutually. Politics,
from the view of its essence, scope and action, may make sense of depending on the politician’s
phenomenology. It is necessary to have certain properties to distinct political activity from
non-political activity in Turkey. The Republic of Turkey is a successor state which inherited
Ottoman’s residuals. This feature creates uncertainties in terms of distinguishing political
and non-political and defining the political actor in Turkey. This paper aims at to define and
crystallize the concepts and implications of politics and the political actor in Turkey based
on the historical perspective using interviews made with the politicians. In this framework,
the paper discusses the relationship between the modern state and politics and the type of
politicians required by modern institutions using the case of the relationship between politics
and politicians in Turkey. Accordingly, the basic tension points, conflicts and compromises
in Turkey will be elaborated and the features of periodical differences in the political sphere
will be exhibited using the interviews. The conceptual framework of interviews’ data will be
based on the concepts and essence about politics and politicians developed by Max Weber, Karl
Manheim and Eduard Spranger.
