Abstract :
Injuries are now a major cause of death and disability
among adolescents in the world.
Road traffic accident (RTA) is defined as, “An event that
occurs on a way or street open to public traffic; resulting
in one or more persons being injured or killed, where at
least one moving vehicle is involved.” RTAs are
considered as one of the important public health
problems around the world. It is the eighth leading
cause of death globally. Current trends suggest that by
2030 road traffic deaths will become the fifth leading
cause of death unless urgent action is taken.1
According
to the global status report on road safety 2013, about
1.24 million people die each year as a result of road
traffic crashes.2 Without action, road traffic crashes are
predicted to result in the deaths of around 1.9 million
people annually by 2020.3
91% of the world’s fatalities
on the roads occur in low-income and middle-income
countries, even though these countries have
approximately half of the world’s vehicles.
