Abstract :
This study investigated the effect of audit quality on the financial performance of deposit money banks in Nigeria. The Ex post Facto research design was adopted. The Judgmental sampling was adopted to selected 14 from the 22 listed Deposit Money Banks on the Nigerian Stock Exchange. The data collected from annual reports and accounts of deposit money banks were analyzed using the simple regression and correlation analyses. Findings f revealed that Audit Committee Size ACSIZ has a positive but insignificant effect on the financial performance of deposit money banks in Nigeria. Audit Committee Independence ACIND and Audit Committee Meetings ACM both have a negative and insignificant effect on the financial performance of quoted deposit money banks in Nigeria while Auditors Size BIG4A has a positive and statistically significant effect on the financial performance of quoted banks in Nigeria. Based on this, the study recommended among others that the management of the deposit money banks in Nigeria should employ the services of one of the big audit firms and where this is not possible, go for an audit firm whose character and integrity is beyond question.
